Rainier Names its New Head of International Investments

Reported by Hung Tran

Rainier Investment Management has hired Henrik Strabo as head of international investments to build and lead their new international and global team. He started on August 15 and reports to James Margard, Rainier’s chief investment officer. Strabo will be based in Seattle.

Henrik joins Rainier after a stint at American Century where he co-managed the American Century International Discovery Fund and in 1999 was promoted to chief investment officer of international equities.

“Rainier is excited to welcome Henrik as Head of International Investments to lead our international and global investment initiatives," Margard stated.

Rainier Investment Management Launches International Investment Team Prior American Century Investments & Clay Finlay International CIO Hired to Lead New International and Global Effort Seattle, WA. (September 27, 2011) -Rainier Investment Management has hired Henrik Strabo as Head of International Investments to build and lead their new international and global team. He started on August 15 and reports to James Margard, Rainier’s Chief Investment Officer. Henrik was identified through an extensive global search for an experienced international investment manager who shares Rainier’s fundamental bottom-up, growth-oriented approach. Strabo will be based in Seattle. Jim Margard, CIO, quotes, “Rainier is excited to welcome Henrik as Head of International Investments to lead our international and global investment initiatives. Henrik brings great experience and knowledge to our new international endeavor.”

Henrik joins Rainier after building a successful career at American Century and Clay Finley. At American Century he co-managed the American Century International Discovery Fund and in 1999 was promoted to Chief Investment Officer (International Equities). While CIO he oversaw five investment teams and developed their growth-oriented investment process. More recently Strabo was CIO and portfolio manager for global boutique Clay Finlay and a managing director at Rogge Capital Management (Austin, TX). He was born and raised in Denmark and educated at University of Washington in Seattle. Given the heritage of Rainier’s U.S. small/mid cap equity strategy and Strabo’s experience managing global strategies across the capitalization range, the team will begin with a launch of a smaller cap international equity strategy in early 2012.

Henrik Strabo quotes, “I am proud to be a member of the Rainier team. I am confident my investment philosophy and approach will be a natural extension for Rainier’s clients and business strategy.”
