CNNfn Will Go Dark

Reported by Theresa Sim

Financial news network CNNfn will be going black in mid-December, after nine years of struggle, the AP reported on Friday.

Talking head Lou Dobbs will continue to be a personality on CNN. Only two other survivors -- personal finance shows "Dolans Unscripted" and "Open House" -- will make the cut to the main network, said CNN spokesperson Sarah Cohn.

Other CNNfn shows such as "The Money Gang," "Market Call," and "Street Sweep" will likely be shelved, added Cohn.

"In The Money," a show which airs on both CNNfn and CNN, will continue to air on CNN, said Cohn.

CNNfn is currently available on 30 million households, but will lose additional distribution when its contract with DirecTV expires, reported the AP.

Across town, the writers at CBS.Marketwatch.com are having no difficulty attracting eyeballs to its website.

Marketwatch, the owner of the website, is putting the property up for sale, reported the NY Times on Thursday.

Unnamed executives "involved in the sale" estimated a sale price of as much as $400 million.

Interested suitors reportedly include the New York Times Company, the CBS unit of Viacom, the Financial Times of Pearson, and Dow Jones, with Dow Jones first in the running, reported the NYT.

The CBS.Marketwatch.com attracted 5.8 million unique visitors in September, according to Nielsen/NetRatings.
