Analytic Joins UAM Family

Reported by Jason Shank

Analytic Investors, Inc. announced that its four mutual fund portfolios, Analytic Enhanced Equity (ANEEX), Analytic Defensive Equity (ANDEX), Analytic Master Fixed Income (ANFIX), and Analytic Short-Term Government (ANSTX) joined the UAM Funds family on April 7, 1999.

"Our funds have been strong performers, and with UAM's top-notch marketing and distribution capabilities, they are now readily available to individual investors and investment advisers, as well as 401(k) plan sponsors," said Harindra de Silva, president of Analytic Investors.

The funds are marketed by UAM Investment Services which markets UAM's investment managers to advisors and institutional investors in the U.S. and in Europe. Its affiliate, UAM Fund Distributors is the funds' distributor.

Analytic Investors uses a quantitative system based on a mathematical model with variables that cover multiple dimensions of a stock's true value. The five primary elements used to determine a stock's attractiveness are: 1) relative valuation; 2) growth potential; 3) historical return momentum; 4) liquidity; and 5) risk.

"Analytic Investors has one of the most experienced teams in the country dedicated to quantitative investing," said UAM Investment Services president James Pappas. "These portfolios represent a significant addition to UAM Funds' broad lineup of investment portfolios."

Analytic Investors' portfolio management team consists of de Silva, Bob Bannon, Scott Barker, Dennis Bein and Greg McMurran. Analytic, an affiliate of UAM since 1985, managed approximately $1 billion in equity and fixed-income assets, primarily for institutional investors, as of March 31, 1999.
