In two separate announcements, Quicken Inc. has announced deals with both Vanguard Group and Fidelity Investments to offer free tax preparation software to their customers.

Vanguard Adds to Tax-Managed Offerings Aug 18 1999

Fidelity will be offering Quicken's Turbotax, tax preparation software with a 70% share, according to Quicken, to customers via its new PowerStreet website. Fidelity's offering will include free federal and state tax preparation and electronic filing for faster refunds. TurboTax for the Web will be available in mid-January 2000.

Intuit has also teamed with Vanguard for the second year to offer "registered users" of Vanguard's website free TurboTax for the Web tax preparation. The service will also be available in mid-January 2000.
