X.com, the second venture from Internet emntrepeneur
Elon Musk, will go live later in the week. It will intitially offer access to online banking services and its propietary family of index mutual funds, for which it recently hired
David Story as head of its asset management division. Story had previously been executive vice president of
Montgomery Asset Management.
It has also just announced the hiring of
Intuit's former chief executive officer,
Bill Harris as its president and CEO. Harris remains on the board of Intuit but resigned in September.
"In an electronic age, consumers and businesses should have electronic control of their money. It should be easy, inexpensive and instant," said Harris.
"Elon Musk has created X.com around that vision, and I am thrilled to be joining him on this mission. The world is on the cusp of historic changes in the financial sector, and we hope to help drive that change."
The company plans to include a broader range of services in the future including integrated brokerage and insurance services.
