OppenheimerFunds millionaire

Look around the office ... is there anyone who can't stop smiling? Did anyone get caught xeroxing their butt? You may have a millionaire in your midst, courtesy of iWon.com. OppenheimerFunds' marketer Josh Kantrowitz of Manhattan was the online firm's fourth winner of $1 million. The company also gives away $40,000 per day and will give away a whopping $10 million on Tax Day.

Fidelity manager underused?

The Globe's staff opines that Fidelity's Neal Miller, manager of the $3.6 billion New Millenium Fund is underused, managing this relatively smaller asset pool. The article, which seems to have been underwritten by Miller's PR people, also suggests that Fidelity re-open his fund to let new investors in.

Janus tech fund manager's rookie year
From The Wall Street Journal
Mike Lu, a 30-year-old rookie fund manager of the Janus Global Technology Fund, posted spectacular returns of 212% in 1999, making it one of the top-performing funds of the year. During a year which saw increasing difficulty in attracting new money, especially for new funds, Lu's fund brought in $4.3 billion, causing Janus to close the fund in early January. The fund was bringing in $100 million per day at the time of its close, according to Janus.

New conference for Latin America's asset managers
From Thomson Financial
Thomson Financial's trade publication, Latin Fund Management, will be sponsoring what it calls the first conference dedicated to the asset management business in Latin America, on May 29-30 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The keynote speaker will be Steve Hanke, a member of the Steering Committee of the G-7 Council in Washington and a Fellow at The World Economic Forum in Geneva. Topics will include distribution strategies, cross-border joint ventures and the opening of Latin American markets.
