Janus Speaks

Janus managers made a stir at Schwab Impact 2000. The Janus fund's Blaine Rollins, the Olympus fund's Claire Young, David Decker of the Janus Special Situations and Strategic Value funds, Laurence Chang, who co-manages Worldwide and Overseas, and Marc Pinto, who manages institutional assets at the firm all spoke to the investment adviser audience. What were their themes? The New Economy; Dig, Dig, Dig; Fair Disclosure = Less Disclosure?; Same Stocks, Different Funds; and Grappling With Growth according to the article.

eBay Popular with Funds

eBay is still a favorite holding of fund companies. Altogether, more than 135 stock funds own shares in the online auction site. At the start of this year, 95 U.S. stock funds owned shares, according to Morningstar.

MetaMarkets Launches IPO Fund
From Wall Street Journal
San Francisco-based MetaMarkets is launching a new IPO & New Era Fund. The fund will be able to invest in companies within a year and a half of their initial public stock offerings. The firm will continue its practice of posting updates in real time along with manager discussions of their investment ideas. The fund starts life with $1.1 million in seed money from MetaMarkets employees.

Energy Funds Benefits
From Wall Street Journal
European energy stock funds are benefiting from the high price of oil. Global energy funds are up average of 8.4 percent as of Sept. 11, according to Standard & Poor's Fund Services in London. Also up are cash flows into these funds. CS Equity Fund Global Energy's says assets have grown 18% in the past two months.

Asian Funds on a Tear
From Wall Street Journal
Asian funds are on a tear. The paper reports that the average Asian ex-Japan fund rose 21 percent during the year ended Aug. 31. The paper discusses the environment with Henderson Investors' TR Pacific Investment Trust manager Michael Watt. The fund is run from Singapore.
