Some of Q2's Worst ETFs Were Silver and Gold

News summary by MFWire's editors

The second quarter's worst ETFs have striking similarities, ETF Trends' Tom Lydon wrote. Of the 14 worst performing non-leveraged ETFs, 10 were mining equities plays. Gold miner stocks are falling hard after the recent Fed announcement. Van Eck's Market Vectors Junior Gold Miners ETF had a 51.1 percent loss in this quarter.

Five silver ETFs and ETNs also appeared on the list of 14 worst-performing ETFs. In April, holdings in six major silver ETFs fell to their lowest price since December and gold ETFs fell to 166.3 metric tons, a monthly decline record.

As Chris Vermuelen of ETF Daily News said, it is difficult for investors to accept that the ETFs, especially mining ETFs are nearing their final economic stage, where the ETFs see a momentary bounce before they experience years of lower prices.
