This Global Fund Shop Will No Longer Have a Global CIO

News summary by MFWire's editors

A global asset manager with a U.S. mutual fund shop will no longer have a global investing chief.

Financial News, Money Marketing, and P&I all report that London-based global chief investment officer Rob Gambi left Henderson Global Investors [profile] last month. Per a statement cited by the pubs, following a leadership structure review the folks at Henderson "agreed there was no longer a need for the CIO role."

"The role was primarily focused on oversight and management of the investment teams globally, rather than being involved directly in making investment decisions or developing a house view," the statement reportedly reads.

Word is that Henderson fixed income chief Phil Apel and Henderson equities chief Graham Kitchen will split Gambi's old duties.

Gambi, an alumnus of Macquarie University and the Australian Graduate School of Management, rejoined Henderson in 2014 after serving as group managing director and global head of fixed income at UBS Global Asset Management. He previously held similar roles at AMP Asset Management and Henderson itself.

Worldwide, Henderson had about 900 people working with $123.5 billion in AUM as of September 30, 2015. Its Chicago-based North American arm is led by managing director Jim O'Brien
