Is the Next SEC Chair the Anti-White?

News summary by MFWire's editors

The next Chair of the SEC is likely to be an M&A lawyer with a very different approach than his predecessor. Yet he still hasn't had his day in the Senate.

The Financial Times profiles Jay Clayton, whom U.S. President Donald Trump picked on January 4 as the next SEC chair, to succeed Mary Jo White. Despite a report last month that Clayton could get his Senate hearing as soon as last week, the week of February 6, the Senate Banking Committee still hasn't scheduled Clayton's hearing.

In contrast with White, who was a high-profile U.S. attorney, Clayton is a "low-key attorney with a gold-plated roster of clients and an impressive golf game," the FT writes.

The publication digs deeper into Clayton and his background and wonders if Clayton will be "more interested in easing rules than handing out record punishments." Fundsters looking to get to know the possible future SEC chief better should read the full article.
