Ex-Lipper Research Head Drowns in Accident

Reported by Neil Anderson, Managing Editor

Jed McKnight, ex-North American head of research for Lipper, died Saturday on a white water rafting trip in Golden, Colorado. The 36-year old Boulder, Colorado resident recently joined Wall Street On Demand, after spending a decade at Lipper and several years at American Century.

Officials with Boulder-based Wall Street On Demand could not immediately be reached for comment.

McKnight first Lipper in 1995 as a portfolio research specialist, and one industry insider called McKnight's death "a real tragedy."

"He really had a ton of knowledge that's going to be missed in the industry," the insider told MFWire, pointing to the Lipper Equity Classification Model which McKnight helped build. "He was the most unbelievable, hard-working guy."

Lipper released a statement on McKnight's death, calling him a "highly regarded member of the Lipper family." The Denver Post reported that McKnight drowned after falling into Clear Creek, near mile marker 259 on U.S. 6.

After working for two years as a senior portfolio research analyst at American Century, McKnight joined up with Lipper again in 2002, serving as U.S. research manager and then North American head of research. According to one source familiar with the situation, McKnight moved to Wall Street On Demand in November 2006.
