Westwood's Small-MidCap Team Powers Another Fund

News summary by MFWire's editors

Westwood Holdings Group's [see profile] newest mutual fund may look a bit familiar to fundsters. Yesterday the Dallas-based mutual fund firm revealed the launch of its WHG SMidCap Plus Fund, run by the same team running the WHG SMidCap Fund, which just closed to new investors [see filing].

Banking Business Review reported on the launch.

The Westwood SMidCap PM team includes: vice president and research analyst Thomas Lieu; vice president and investment strategist David Spika; senior vice president and product director Ragen Stienke; vice president and research analyst Grant Taber; and vice president and research analyst Graham Wong.

Westwood offers institutional shares only for the new fund, with total expenses capped 100 basis points at least through February 2013. DST serves as the new fund's transfer agent, U.S. Bank as its custodian, Ernst & Young as its accounting firm and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius as legal counsel. The fund is part of SEI's Advisors' Inner Circle Fund. (SEI distributes the fund.)

Company Press Release

DALLAS--Westwood Holdings Group, Inc. (NYSE: WHG) announced the launch of the WHG SMidCap Plus Fund (WHGPX). The new mutual fund is managed by the same Westwood investment team as the WHG SMidCap Fund (WHGMX), which was recently closed to new investors due to the successful growth of Westwood's SMidCap strategy.

The new WHG SMidCap Plus Fund will offer investors a complementary strategy that considers small- and mid-cap companies with market capitalizations between $2 billion and $15 billion. Small to mid size companies have been an attractive area of the stock market and Westwood has a long term track record of investing in these securities.

The WHG SMidCap Plus Fund will be offered in an institutional share class with a total expense ratio capped at 1.00%. Fee waivers are contractual through February 28, 2013. The total annual operating expense would otherwise be 1.82%. The fund may be purchased directly from the fund or through third party mutual fund platforms.
