Northern Trust [profile] is making headway in the ETF space with its FlexShares launched 2011 Q4. To that end, John Sullivan has profiled Shundrawn Thomas, head of Northern Trust's ETF group, for AdvisorOne today.

Among other conversation topics, Thomas spoke about Northern Trust's focus on natural resources and TIPS representing a strategy that looks at what investors want to achieve and tilted indexing (where exposure is "poured out" into small-cap and value). He also expressed confidence about keeping up with bigger competitors by virtue of strong fund flows.
