Vanguard Worries That the ETF Well May Be Poisoned

News summary by MFWire's editors

Fundsters interested in getting a glimpse of what top ETF executives expect from the years to come may want to check out this week's issue of Barron's. Brendan Conway gathered four bigwigs: Vanguard [profile] principal and senior investment strategist Joel Dickson, Bernstein Research analyst Luke Montgomery, iShares [profile] fixed income strategy team chief Matthew Tucker, and Northern Trust [profile] ETF group chief Shundrawn Thomas.

The quarter talk with Barron's about new products, growth opportunities with both retail and institutional investors, the great 401(k) channel hope, and more. And they offered a warning about the flurry of new ETFs that hit the market each year, most tailored for their own niche investing possibilities.

"I worry that the well will be poisoned," Dickson said. "I worry sometimes that the term ETF has become a catchall for anything that is exchange traded. I worry from a regulation standpoint."
