It looks like the Bishop is going to spend more than three more decades in prison.

Yesterday in Chicago John Tomkins, 48, of Dubuque, Iowa, was sentenced in federal court to 37 years in prison, after he was convicted a year ago of sending threatening letters to fundsters and pipe bombs (with key circuitry left uncompleted) to American Century and Janus. Tomkins has been in custody for six years, since his arrest, which will be credited against his sentence. Fundsters targeted by Tomkins' letters included William D'Alonzo of Friess Associates, Wallace Weitz and Steve Yacktman.

Francis Lipuma, the lawyer who stepped in for the defense during sentencing, told Bloomberg that Tomkins will appeal the sentencing.

The Associated Press, the Chicago Sun-Times, the Chicago Tribune and the Daily Herald also covered the sentencing.

Tomkins testified that he got the Bishop moniker, with which he signed some of the letters, from science fiction author Harry Harrison.
