Third Avenue Creates a Chief Risk Officer Role

Reported by Armie Margaret Lee

Third Avenue Management [see profile] tapped Thomas Gandolfo for the newly created position of chief risk officer effective next month. Gandolfo will report to president and CEO David Barse.

A member of the New York City-based company's investment team and risk management committee, Gandolfo has been with Third Avenue since July 2008. In his new role, he will oversee the firm's investment and enterprise risk management processes.

In a press release on Thursday, Barse talked about why he created the chief risk officer post.

"While we have always focused on guarding against investment risk, the world post 2008 has become riskier and more strictly regulated," Barse said. "I established the role of Chief Risk Officer to formalize and enhance our existing risk assessment and mitigation processes."

Gandolfo is an alum of Ambac Financial Group and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
