Evergreen Splits Equity Team

Evergreen Investments has split its equity team into two. William E. Zieff and new hire Joseph DeSantis will each lead one part of the bifurcated equity investment group.

DeSantis will head Evergreen's Global Structured Products team, which covers the firm's quantitative, index and enhanced index strategies. The team includes 85 investment professionals and manages more than $25 billion in assets. DeSantis joins Evergreen from Deutsche Asset Management, where he headed active equities.

Zieff, who joined Evergreen in 2000, was named the chief investment officer of the Fundamental Equity team. The group of eight investment professionals in total will manage the rest of the firm's equity strategies.

Both Zieff and DeSantis will report to Evergreen’s chief investment officer, Christopher Conkey.

“We believe this structure positions Evergreen well within a marketplace led by long-term demand for both enhanced index products as well as less index-oriented, more absolute-return focused product. While each team will have responsibility for specific mandates, we also anticipate significant leverage from the combined efforts of the two groups," said Conkey.
