Manager Swaps: WM Group, Van Kampen, Morgan Stanley


The WM Group of Funds is looking for a new manager for its WM Equity Income Fund and its WM REIT Fund. Current manager Richard Helm will leave at the end of July for another role.

Randy Yoakum, a senior portfolio manager and chief investment strategist at WM Advisors, will manage the Equity Income Fund while the firm conducts its search.

David Simpson, also a senior portfolio manager, will take over management of the WM REIT Fund.

Timothy D. Haney, former vice president at Van Kampen Investments, left the firm on July 15 to "pursue other opportunities." Haney was also a member of the fund firm's Municipal Fixed Income Team and helped manage eight closed-end and four open-end muni funds.

Morgan Stanley Investment Management has hired away the duo managing the 1838 International Equity Fund. Hans van den Berg and David Sugimoto have joined the firm as portfolio managers and managing director and executive director, respectively.

1838 Investment Advisors has awarded interim subadvised management of the fund to Morgan Stanley. van den Berg had managed the fund since its launch in 1995; Sugimoto began co-managing the fund in 2000.
