Fido Hires CIO, Plans to Add More

There are more new faces at Fidelity. The Boston Globe reports that the fund firm has hired an ex-Putnam manager to oversee several investment teams.

Eric Wetlaufer will serve as a chief investment officer, working with Philip L. Bullen, Fidelity's new chief investment officer in real estate, quantitative strategies, international institutional investments and domestic teams that manage foreign assets, reports the Globe. Wetlaufer managed Putnam's Vista fund and held a chief investment role at the firm.

Stephen P. Jonas, the new head of Fidelity's asset management business, told the Globe that the firm plans to increase its investment staff by nearly double and revamp the structure of its investment teams. Changes include bringing Fidelity's traders closer to investment staff and adding a layer of analysts that will work with managers, Jonas told the Globe.

In other people moves, the Boston Herald reports that David Baverez and Krishnan Sadasivam have left Fidelity's European equities team to join TCI Fund Management, a London-based hedge fund.

Taking over for Baverez for management of Fidelity's Europe fund is Frederic Gautier. Gautier also manages other UK and European equity portfolios.
