Dreyfus Promotes Eggers To COO

The Dreyfus Corp. has elevated its president, Thomas Eggers, to chief operating officer. Eggers will keep his title as president of the New York City-based subsidiary of Mellon Financial Corp. and will continue to oversee sales, marketing and strategic product management and development efforts, according to a news release.

The firm did not have a COO prior to Eggers' promotion, Dreyfus spokesperson Patrice Kozlowski said. "The appointment was made in recognition of Tom's many accomplishments at the company," she said.

In the release, Stephen Canter, vice chairman of Mellon Financial and chairman and CEO of Dreyfus, praised Eggers' leadership skills, pointing to Dreyfus' transformation to a customer-focused distribution company.

"We are capitalizing on our strong brand recognition and reputation, utilizing Mellon Centers of Investment Excellence and sub-advisers to provide institutional quality investment processes to affluent investors and their advisors," Canter said.

Eggers first joined Dreyfus in 1996 as head of Dreyfus Investments and was named vice chairman of The Dreyfus Corp. in 1999. He was promoted to president in 2001. In 2005, he rejoined the firm from Scudder Investments, where he was president and chief executive officer since 2002.
