State Street Lands JP Morgan Vet for Fund Services

State Street is beefing up the team that provides investment services, including fund accounting, custody and fund administration. This month the Boston-based firm hired Virginia Meany to fill a newly created role as senior vice president within its North American investor services team to oversee the effort.

Meany will report to James S. Phalen, executive vice president and head of State Street's North America investment servicing business. She will join State Street later this month.

Meany's hiring is part of State Street's effort to build upon its leadership position in the North American market, according to company executives. Phalen pointed to Meany's "in-depth knowledge of the investment servicing industry -- including solutions for complex investment vehicles," as a reason for her hiring.

She was last at JPMorgan Chase where she was president of its worldwide securities services business responsible for mutual fund investment operations. Prior to this position, she held senior roles including head of annuity services at Travelers Life and Annuity and senior vice president at Fidelity Investments, responsible for transfer agency operations and institutional client services.

She serves on the NICSA's board of Trustees, serving as vice chair.
