New Research Supports Independent Directors

Independent directors of mutual fund firms may lead to lower fees for investors, according to recent research. The WSJ reports that Morningstar research found that directors with close ties to a fund company often do not negotiate for lower fees that may cut into the fund company's profits. This may have implications for the SEC's consideration of the indy rule that would require that 75 percent of a board's directors be independent.
