Schwab Looks to B-Ds for Distribution Push

Charles Schwab Investment Management is putting the focus on broker-dealer distribution for its funds.

"We have seen demand from the gatekeepers of wirehouses, regional broker-dealers and independent broker dealers," Bill Thomas, senior vice president and head of distribution at CSIM, told The MFWire.

For Schwab's proprietary funds, the interest stems from CSIM's equity rating stock picking model. "We still have to go through the performance, expense ratio and portfolio manager tenure evaluations," Thomas said, "but having this model behind makes us show very well through the process."

CSIM is also in the process of building its brand within Schwab.

He added: ""We have been promoting our Schwab/Laudus funds with institutional-focused ads. "We have been very pleased with the results."
