Former Illinois Fund Manager Has Political Hopes Dashed Again

It looks like the the fourth time isn't the charm for Jim Oberweis. Morningstar reports that Oberweis, the founder of Oberweis Asset Management, has lost his fourth political race in six years. In February, Oberweis has won the republican primary for the congressional seat once held by former House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill). Earlier this month, his political ambitions were once again dashed when democrat Bill Foster took the special election. Foster had used Oberweis Asset Management's investments in Chinese firms to prove that Oberweis was not interested in protecting American jobs. Oberweis will have another chance to face off against Foster in the November 2008 general election. Adding insult to injury, Morningstar also points out that Oberweis Asset Management has has a rough time so far this year, losing 40 percent of its AUM in January.
