Commodity, or Not to Be?

In Tuesday's WSJ FundTrack, Daisy Maxey relives commodity mutual funds' multi-year success and at the same time wonders whether it is sustainable over the long term. Data from Morningstar bears witness to the kind of run commodity fund have had: natural resource funds are up 30.3 percent over the past five years, and nearly 30 percent in the past 12 months. Mihir Worah, manager of Pimco's CommodityRealReturn Strategy Fund, told Maxey that he thinks this success will continue over the next three, five and ten year periods.

Also in Tuesday's FundTrack are the results of last Friday's arbitration judgment against AllianceBernstein Holdings and its chief executive, Lewis Sanders. The panel found in favor of the plaintiff, John Carl, and awarded him $12 million. Carl had accused Sanders and AllianceBernstein of defamation stemming from comments made on a U-5 termination form.
