American Funds Plans to Trim its Money Market Fund Roster

American Funds plans to merge two money market funds, Cash Management Trust of America and U.S. Treasury Money Fund of America, into a new money fund, American Funds Money Market Fund, according to a recent SEC filing. If approved by shareholders, the reorganization is expected to be completed in the summer.

The Los Angeles-based fund firm also plans to convert the Tax-Exempt Money Fund of America from a money market fund to a short-term tax-exempt bond fund. If greenlighted by shareholders, the change is expected to be completed in the summer, too.
