Scudder Kemper loves those dot coms
From The Wall Street Journal
As if you haven't heard enough about the Internet. Now, Scudder Kemper Investments is going to be launching a venture capital firm. Its goal is to finance and otherwise help develop web-based businesses. Jay Kingley, a partner of e-business consulting firm Diamond Technology Partners, has been tapped to head the new E-cubator Group. He will report to Mark Casady, managing director and head of the firm's world-wide fund business.

Are mid-cap funds the must-have investment for the next century?
From The New York Post
According to Andy Stephens, portfolio manager of the Artisan Mid-Cap Fund, mid-cap mutual funds are hot, hot, hot. Think he might be somewhat biased? Well, his fund this year had a gain of about 40%, which is mighty impressive next to the 15% for the S&P 500. Stephens credits the success of mid-caps to the revolution that's occurring with the Internet. The IPOs in that sector create what he describes as an instant mid-cap category.

Fund calculators compared
From The Philadelphia Inquirer
As the number of free mutual fund cost calculators continues to grow, the ease of use and value- added of each comes into question. The Inquirer compares some of the more visible calculators including the SEC's, reportedly downloaded by 100,000 investors so far, but lacking the necessary fund data, and Andrew Tobias' calculator at PersonalFund.com.
