Small Bytes for July 21

  • A team of 16 fixed-income people from Conseco is hitting the road for Philadelphia and Delaware Investments, a subsidiary of the Lincoln Financial Group. The team includes portfolio manager Peter Andersen and head of research and trading Jude Driscoll. In a statement, Delaware described the large number of hires as "unexpected." In the same statement, Andersen said "Some well publicized issues at our parent company were distracting." He is probably referring the troubled acquisition of Greentree Financial, a consumer lending organization, and the resulting drop in the price of Conseco's stock, which has declined from 30 to eight in the last several months. They will join the fixed-income operations at Delaware, which was recently combined with those of Lincoln Investment Management, another subsidiary of Lincoln Financial, who primarily manages insurance assets. .

  • Kevin Hart is the new president and chief executive officer of SunAmerica Financial Network, SunAmerica's network of 9,000 broker-dealers. Hart, 45, joined SunAmerica in 1995 as executive vice president and national sales manager. SunAmerica's hopes to grow its broker-dealers to 15,000 by the end of 2003, and Hart will be a key part of that effort.
