Conseco Promotes Marketer

Conseco Capital Management has promoted D. Bruce Johnston to the newly created position of senior vice president - marketing, sales and client service. He will continue reporting to president and chief executive officer, Maxwell E. Bublitz, CFA.

In February, Johnston was promoted to senior vice president of mutual fund marketing and sales. The new title ads client services to the hats he wears at the eight fund family.

Johnston's new responsibilities encompass both institutional and mutual fund investments, according to the firm. He joined Conseco in March of 1998 as vice president and director of marketing and sales for Conseco Fund Group (CFG), CCM's mutual fund family formed in late 1996.

Since he joined the firm its mutual fund sales have grown to $1.5 billion from just $50 million. It has also added more than 30,000 new shareholders so far this year. The growth came as Conseco created 16 regional sales teams and added more than 180 broker-dealer selling agreements.

"A leading-edge financial services marketing expert, Bruce has been a key member of our management team for nearly three years and the driving force behind CFG's growth and success," said Bublitz. "His leadership, vitality, broad-based experience and innovative approaches will enable us to fully integrate and deliver superior investment performance and world-class service to our institutional clients and the investment professionals who recommend CCM's financial products."
