MFS Spins Integrated Web

MFS is taking the wraps off its new Web site on January 26. The freshly-buffed design incorporates a number of changes built on the front of Internet technology, including integration of account information.

The new site consolidates all of MFS' sites into one place, where users customize information for their own needs. Where, in the past, one client may have had to visit different sites for 401(k) information and fund information, all this data can be aggregated. Furthermore, users can toggle among different functions, fulfilling complex regulations regarding reporting.

"What we're trying to do is integrate it so it feels cohesive," said Jerry Potts, senior vice president of marketing and communications for MFS. "Our view is that the success of any company's moving ahead is going to be on this integration issue."

Near and dear to his heart, however, is the broad application of streaming media. In addition to his duties at MFS, Potts is the chief executive officer at New England Streaming Media. The company has brought the technology to non-tech-savvy users.

"We needed to build technology so people who had no experience with streaming media can come in and use it," said Potts. "It makes streaming media transparent."

Although MFS has helped back the company and is a major client, NE Streaming Media also serves other industry firms.

"I work with New England Streaming Media as sort of a hair club member," explained Potts. "I'm working with other financial services companies that are interrested in streaming media."

The new site also looks to Wiesenberger for a hypotheticals application. ATG, with several Boston area offices, developed the personalization functionality. The company has done work for other firms such as John Hancock, Scwhab, and BGI.
