Bringing Advisors to Life

GE Asset Management is making its moves on the advisor market: the newly-created division is now hiring wholesalers. Furthermore, it is taking the first steps towards crafting a series of mutual fund product geared towards advisors.

The firm is looking to hire four wholesalers to help build the nascent business in the following territories: West Coast, Southwest, Chicago, and New York. While geographical location guides the selection process, Robert T. Methven, senior vice president of advisory services, said that he is very flexible in the hiring process and has been looking at several external and internal candidates.

Until now, Methven said he has been laying the groundwork for a more aggressive marketing strategy, gauging the market before prematurely developing product or staff. Later this month, he will meet an internal "hurdle," presenting his plan and spending proposal for the upcoming year to GE executives.

For the moment, Methven said he is the process of developing two core-based products, but he was reluctant to add more details.
