CDC Nvest Picks New Sub-Advisor

Mercury Advisors has landed a sub-advisory deal with CDC Nvest's Star Advisers Fund. The new relationship represents the first between the firms.

As of July 1, Lawrence R. Fuller will manage Mercury Advisors' portion of the multi-manager fund. Fuller is also the senior portfolio manager of the Merrill Lynch Fundamental Growth Fund and the Mercury Growth Opportunities Fund.

Three other segments are managed by teams from Oakmark/Harris Associates (Kevin Grand and Edward Loeb), Loomis, Sayles & Company (Joseph Gatz and Dan Thelen), and a second Loomis, Sayles team (Christopher Ely, Philip Fine and David Smith).

John T. Hailer, president of CDC Nvest Funds, dryly said that his firm was drawn to Mercury's strong performance in the large cap growth area. In a statement, he gushed, "The Mercury team has demonstrated expertise in managing large cap growth investments and their investment style will be an ideal complement to the other segments of Star Advisers Fund."
