Goldman Sachs has purchased Epoch Partners, an online investment banking partnership founded in 1999 by: Ameritrade, TD Waterhouse, and Schwab. Epoch was created in part to give retail customers access to highly lucrative IPOS. This move will allow Goldman to sell their offerings and research to retail clients, including those of Schwab and T.D. Waterhouse. Ameritrade will not allow Goldman access to their clients. In a related move, Schwab is buying Epoch's quantitative trading in an effort to strengthen Schwab's electronic and program trading platforms.
