NICSA Creates Certification

Fund firms seeking training for their staff have a new online resource. The National Investment Company Service Association (NICSA) is now offering a training program through an online learning center.

Barbara V. Weidlich, president of NICSA, explained that she expects the program to reduce training costs and increase productivity within firms. The initial program was developed by Acadient and will offer Mutual Fund Industry Specialist (MFIS) Certification.

The certification program includes 14 courses in three tracks and is intended to familiarize fund employees with the industry’s history, regulations, providers, structure, operations, distribution, and marketing. The program is based on NICSA’s book, A Purely American Invention: The U.S. Open-End Mutual Fund Industry by Lee Gremillion, Ph.D, a PricewaterhouseCoopers partner.
