Brains? Check. Very Thick Skin? Check. A Pimco Survival Guide

So you want to work at Pimco? The Los Angeles Times' Walter Hamilton has an article on Sunday on what it takes to survive at the world's largest bond fund manager.

"You have to have a pretty thick skin to work here," veteran portfolio manager Marc Seidner told the pub.

Seidner should know. He recently presented an idea to 15 colleagues and saw his arguments shot down by co-workers. Pimco CEO Mohamed-El-Erian closed the discussion after 20 minutes so as not to embarrass Seidner.

"You should expect to come in here three or four times out of 10 and get beat up," Seidner said.

Every six months, Pimco ranks its 1,328 workers and the top 10 percent are groomed for advancement. Those in the bottom pile get mentoring.
