More Mutual Funds May be on SouthernSun's Horizon

SouthernSun Asset Management [see profile], is thinking about adding mutual funds. Currently, the Memphis-based investment manager offers one '40 Act product, the $61.4 million SouthernSun Small Cap Fund.

Company officials have been discussing the possibility of offering the smid-cap and global all-cap strategies, which SouthernSun offers in a separate account format, in mutual fund form as well, said Michael Cook, founder, CEO and CIO, in an interview with The MFWire.com.

The firm hopes to make a decision on whether to pursue the concept "by the first of next year," Cook said.

Yesterday, The MFWire.com reported that SouthernSun has become a majority employee-owned firm following the purchase of several outside shareholders' interests.
