Is Northwestern Thinking of Selling Russell?

Is Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance looking to pin a "For Sale" sign on Russell Investments [see profile]?

Wednesday afternoon, InvestmentNews reported that Northwestern is "seriously considering putting the business up for sale," citing anonymous investment bankers and industry observers.

Northwestern spokesman Darryll Fortune told the pub that Russell is not for sale. Russell spokeswoman Jennifer Tice said the company does not comment on rumors.

Northwestern acquired Russell in 1999.

The sale chatter comes as Russell is preparing to move its headquarters from Tacoma to Seattle. The relocation is set for next month.
