Wednesday, August 21, 2002 Spreading the 529 Word Delaware Investments, the manager of the Pennsylvania 529 plan, is in the process of launching a three-stage ad campaign for the residents for that state, Tom Gariepy, vice president of corporate communications at the firm, told the MutualFundWire.com. The campaign involves advertising on television and radio and in print. "We have been airing television ads since July 17," the executive reported. "The radio spots will be heard shortly. And we are finishing up the print advertisements." The television ads take a humorous bent. A man who looks like a financial planner -- dressed in a suit and suspenders -- is pouring over charts and graphs and explaining the advantages of saving through a 529 plan. When the camera ends, it pans back to reveal he is speaking to two children who look at him mystified. It turns out he's their dad, and their mom takes them off to bed. Those interested are directed to the firm's website and/or its 1-800 number. The print ads will be more informative. "Our goal is to get the people of Pennsylvania to know about the state's new investment program," he explained. McCarthy, Marcus, Hennings of Washington, D.C. is the ad agency for the campaign.
