Hugh Jackman Saves the Day for Baron

Broadway star Hugh Jackman's song and dance numbers at the Baron Funds conference today left fund shareholders smiling despite some having started the day on a sour note. The event is free and open to all Baron Funds shareholders, paid for by Ron Baron himself (and not the company or the funds).

The conference got off to a rocky start for some investors who stood in line at Lincoln Center for about an hour before getting into the registration tent. Once inside, investors were told that tickets were going to be handed out only for closed-circuit television viewing. Some investors grumbled that the event, which boasts some 6,200 attendees this year, should have been held at a bigger venue such as Madison Square Garden.

After crossing the registration gauntlet, investors braved another line, the lunch line, which was just as daunting. All told, some spent two hours of their morning without ever getting a sniff of Baron's PMs or the CEOs who were on hand to present their stories to investors.

But the day's silver lining occurred during lunch when Hollywood star Hugh Jackman surprised investors by giving them a sneak peek of his current one-man Broadway show. Needless to say, Jackman made a lot of people in the audience forget how they spent their mornings.

Jackman's numbers included "Singing in the Rain" and "On Broadway," among others.
