Jaffe is "Wary" of Morningstar's New System

Chuck Jaffe isn't throwing his support behind Morningstar's new analyst ratings, or behind any of the less-well-known "predictive mutual-fund ratings" out there. On Sunday the MarketWatch columnist offered up concerns about any forward-looking mutual fund rating system.

"You have no real idea how good their system is or how reliable they are, certainly not now while they are new," fundster consultant Geoff Bobroff told Jaffe. "The marketplace wants this, investors have demanded it, but that doesn't mean it works. It's just too early to tell, though it's tempting to look."

Jaffe also highlights other such predictive mutual fund examiners, including: FundReveal.com, New Constructs, No-Load FundX and No-Load Mutual Fund Selection & Timing. David Snowball of MutualFundObserver.com also offers his thoughts on the subject.
