New Service to Facilitate 529 Searches

PlanAnalytics plans to release Search529 for advisers serving individuals seeking appropriate college savings plans on December 2 of this year. The new service, which will hew closely to the firm's flagship Search401k product, will go up against SavingforCollege.com and Morningstar's 529 service. Some 14,000 advisers have registered to use Search401k.

Tom Plumb, CEO of the Mendota Heights, Minnesota-based firm, notes that more advisers are actually devoted to serving the 529 marketplace -- the end clients of which are individuals -- than for 401k programs.

Separately, PlanAnalytics has launched a new service, SearchPerformance, which outfits advisers with the tools required to support fiduciary responsibilities for 401k clients. With the new service, advisers can customize fund performance criteria and compare selected fund performance against others in its cohort.

"We spent much of 2002 with a strategic emphasis on research and development, SearchPerformance is a result of this planning, and we believe it will contribute to a strong growth rate for 2003," says Plumb. He reiterated that the product is only the first leg of a suite of new products to be launched.
