Is White Set to Sail Through the Senate?

Chairman White may soon be a reality. Ben Protess of the New York Times' DealBook reports that, thanks to an almost-unanimous committee vote, Mary Jo White appears "poised to sail through the Senate in the days ahead" and thus be confirmed with flying colors as the next SEC chairman.

The Senators on the committee voted 21-to-1 in favor of White, U.S. President Barack Obama's permanent choice to fill Mary Schapiro's old spot. Only Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) voted against White, worrying about potential conflicts of interest related to White's past work represented financial services giants like J.P. Morgan and UBS.
