Ohio Bank Pushes SMAs

Akron, Ohio-based FirstMerit, a bank covering northeast Ohio, has allied with SEI Investments to bring separately managed accounts to its affluent customers. The bank's asset management is also creating a new Wealth Relationship Management Services unit dedicated to the affluent segment.

The new unit pulls together FirstMerit's specialty wealth units, such as Trust, Private Banking and Brokerage, for those clients.

"Increasingly, our high-net-worth clients need to have close-at-hand a financial advisor with a breadth of experience to navigate complex financial issues," said George P. Paidas, president, Wealth Management.

Brian Jenner, senior vice president, heads the newly created Wealth Management Services team while James E. Makee, Jr., vice president, is developing and coordinating the delivery of financial services to clients. The other members of the team include: Richard Lucas, assistant vice president and Mary Ann Potocar, assistant vice president. Potocar will manage the FirstMerit Premier Program money management program for high-net-worth individuals. Prior to joining FirstMerit, she worked as a due diligence specialist for McDonald Investment's Consulting Group.
