Monday, July 8, 2013 Peter Lynch's Legacy Lives On The stock-picking methods of Peter Lynch can be found on sites such as GuruFocus, F.A.S.T. Graphs and YCharts, Barrons' Mike Hogan reported. Lynch's ethos of looking for good discounted stocks, and the line crossovers he used to identify buy and sell levels, are being mimicked in GuruFocus' rebuilt valuation charts. The easier version of his valuation chart isn't cheap at $299 a year but it doesn't require much work to do the math: Type in a ticker say, WMT (WalMart Stores)—and click on the Financial Charts tab, and the default view is a 10-year chart with the basic WMT price line. To that, Lynch added a "fair value" line, derived by multiplying annual earnings by the market's historical average price/earnings multiple of 15. Click on the new Price at P/E box to the left of the screen and let the Website do the math and drawing. Use any earnings multiple you like; 15 is the default. To read more on how Lynch's stock picking methods are being simplified for financial sites, click here.
