Thursday, July 25, 2013 Barron's Profiles Legg's Wunderkind The 36-year-old Aram Green, co-PM of Legg Mason [profile] ClearBridge Small Cap Growth Fund, was interviewed by Johanna Bennett in Barrons. Bennett did not interview Jeffrey Russell, the fund's co-manager. Green's fund saw a 37 percent gain so far this year. He looks for companies that have between $500 million and 2 billion in market value with sustainable long-term growth prospects. Contrary to popular belief, Bennett quotes Green as saying, small-caps are not risky and stresses that portfolio management in the small-cap space has beaten ETFs. The fund is overweight technology and underweight in health care, which is slightly unpredictable as it's experiencing changes due to Obamacare. According to Bennett, Green said that he's not interested in less developed biotechs because they're too high-risk, high-reward as they may never get approved by the FDA. Aram is a bit of a contrarian as an article in The New York Times showed last year.
