The Boston Behemoth is Hiring 250 More in Denver

Fidelity [profile] celebrated its new center in Denver Thursday, the Denver Business Journal's Heather Draper writes. In attendance were Governor John Hickenlooper and Sherri Kroonenberg, senior vice president and general manager of the new customer contact center.

Fidelity has been hiring since the site opened in January and employs 200 people there, Draper reported, adding that Fidelity expects to hire 250 more people by the end of this year. Six levels of staff are employed there, doing initial customer contact as well as more complex financial advice, Draper writes.

Draper quoted Kroonenberg as saying, "Fidelity looked at their geographic diversification strategy ... and one of the pieces that we wanted to see was a location in the mountain West ... They looked at multiple areas, but when they looked at Denver, one of the things that came to mind was, 'How strong is the labor market here?' And it's very strong from a financial services perspective."

Denver is also the city where Fidelity is developing its ETF arm, MFWire reported. Anthony Rochte heads the Denver-based unit that runs Fidelity's ETF business. A year ago, Fidelity started hiring more senior employees for their Denver business. The state committed up to $400,000 for training of the 500 employees of the project, The Denver Post's Howard Pankratz reported.
