A Former Davis PM Passes Away at 39


Charles Ahern Cavanaugh, former manager of the Davis Financial Fund, died on July 15 at age 39.

Cavanaugh passed away after a long battle with cancer, according to Bloomberg and a notice in the New York Times.

A graduate of Jesuit High School in Portland, Oregon, as well as the University of Notre Dame, where he received degrees in political science and theology, Cavanaugh had managed or co-managed a number of strategies for Davis. He served as co-manager of the Davis Financial Fund from 2007 to 2012. In that role, he had succeeded Christopher C. Davis, who was son of the Tucson, Arizona-based company’s founder, Shelby M.C. Davis, according to Bloomberg. He had also managed the Opportunity, International and Selected International funds. He was also a PM of the John Hancock Funds II.

According to Bloomberg, Cavanaugh had joined Davis in 2001. He had left Davis in 2012.

Cavanaugh, according to the New York Times notice, is survived by his wife Emilia and his son Aidan, as well as by his parentsMike and Zoe Cavanaugh; brother John Cavanaugh; sister Elizabeth Lowe, and nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

The notice finishes with this message: "Thank you Charles for being a man of faith, wildly generous, outrageous, unique, fun and thoughtful. Most of all, thank you for being you."
