At MFS, Manning Will Soon Share His Crown

MFS is about to switch from one chief to two. And there are two new C-suite roles in the works, too.

Michael Roberge
MFS Investment Management
President, CIO, co-CEO-designate
Yesterday afternoon the Boston-based mutual fund shop and Sun Life subsidiary confirmed that, starting on January 1, current chairman and CEO Rob Manning, 50, will share the CEO title with Mike Roberge, who is about to turn 48. Both Manning and Roberge will hold the co-CEO title.

An 18-year MFS veteran, Roberge has served as president and chief investment officer for more than four years, and he will continue to serve as president and CIO. Over his MFS career Roberge has worked as an analyst, a PM, a research director and chief of fixed income.

Robert Manning
MFS Investment Management
Chairman, CEO, co-CEO-designate
Manning will continue to serve as chairman of MFS. He put Roberge's promotion in the context of guiding MFS' "ongoing global expansion."

Roberge is also creating two new silo CIO roles, reporting to him. Kevin Beatty, director of equity in North America, will become CIO of global equity and Bill Adams, director of fixed income, will become CIO of global fixed income.

Adams has worked with MFS for 17 years. Beatty first joined MFS 12 years ago.
