An Allianz Think Tank Bigwig Prepares to Retire


A think tank director is saying goodbye to Allianz Global Investors [profile] in a few months.

MFWire has learned that Cathy Smith, director and co-founderof Allianz's Center for Behavioral Finance, will retire from the New York City-based U.S. arm of the German multinational at the end of the year. An Allianz veteran, Smith previously served as marketing communications director for Allianz Global Investors Distributors.

Allianz launched the think tank in June 2010. It now includes five employees, including Smith, as well as four academics. UCLA's Shlomo Benartzi, behavioral finance guru and 401(k) industry celebrity, serves as chief behavioral economist at the center.

Allianz spokeswoman Megan Frank confirms that Benartzi "is going to continue to be very involved" in the center and that the center's internal team will be handling some of Smith's duties.
