Only One Asset Manager CEO Catches Barron's Eye

Only one asset manager can claim to have one of the "world's best CEOs" according to Barron's.

Larry Fink, the 62-year-old CEO of BlackRock [profile], remained on the list, the latest iteration of which the publication released on Saturday. The list of 30 elite chief executives also includes famous folk like Warren Buffett, Tim Cook, and Jamie Dimon.

Why did Fink make the list? Barron's reasoning is simple: Fink "built the world's largest asset manager with $4.7 trillion in assets." The profile mentions Fink's tenure as CEO (since 1988, which turns out to be the year BlackRock was founded by Fink and seven others as a unit within Blackstone), the IPO in 1999, and the Barclays Global Investors deal that brought BlackRock iShares in 2009. (Other notable BlackRock acquisitions included MLIM and and State Street Research and Management.) The profile also gives fundsters a reminder of Fink's political connections and his "punishing schedule" (at BlackRock's NYC HQ at 6am). And Barron's reaffirms that Fink still "has no plans to retire."
